Fan/ Heater Problem

Hi my heater in my car doesnt work at all when the car is started but randomly comes on after so long, but if the fan is working and you turn the ignition off and on again it doesnt work again, is there a relay that controls the heater fan.Thanks

I notice its that time of year again when the old squealing pig comes along. I fitted a new second hand motor in the rally car at the end of last winter and it was fine. Did not use it all summer ect and took the car out for a run last week and the pig popped up. Motor works ok though so as i'll be wearing a helmet and the intercom on i'll put up with it !
