Is there anything i can do to the standard 1.9 rear discs to hold the car back when i warm the tyres at pod.

They never hold and the car just wheel spins off, they pass mot fine and they work fine on the raod????

Hydraulic handbrake or a line lock.

rebuild the calipers and fit new cables with o.e pads,. did the trick for me though I don't make a habit of wheelspinning with the handbrake on

Correct! Drums are more effective and reliable than discs. Harder to maintain/work on though.
