Is it a Phase 2 model that you have (ie black header tank with level sender in the bottom)?

If so, they seem to be quite susceptible to noise - usually from the HT side of the ignition - causing the light to come on falsely.

Yes its a phase 2 model, would it be better if i switched to a phase 1 type header tank?

Thanks

It's not quite that easy unfortunately, as the wiring for the level senders is different between Phase 1/1.5 and Phase 2

Try another set of HT leads if you've got some, and try tying the level sensor wiring back as far as possible away from the engine - sometimes the combination of these two seems to solve it and stops the light coming on, but other times it does not.

ok, new ht leads first then, the other lkoom is as far away as poss already, we've had a llok at fitting a phase 1 tank before - not because of this though it was cos i have a shiny alloy one ;) only didnt fit it as it has to use the ph 1 sensor. to run the phase 1

I think i recall having to reomve 1 wire and move the middle to an outside terminal in the plug :) - maybe i'll have to use the shiny one after all :)

anyone got a decent phase 1 water level sensor haging about - the one i have is broken :(
