Master Cylinder Query

Recommended Posts

Eliganza

Hello all,

After not much success with a 2nd hand master cylinder, I'm going to buy a new one from GSF. However, there are 3 options available for my car; abs (which it isn't so I won't be using that one) or two non-abs cylinders. One has a 20.6mm piston, the other a 19mm. Both have four ports apparently; can I fit either of them? The original one was a 19mm, but if the 20.6 will fit I'll use that because its cheaper :D

Cheers,

Sam

205 GTi should have a 20.6mm one - 19mm is for base models.

I got mine from gsf heathrow and asked them for a bendix one. But i have just checked the code on my box and looked on the website and mine is listed as 19mm. the 20.6mm is cheaper but not sure if its bendix. Anthony do you think I should take it back and insist on a 20.6mm?

they fit mk2 golfs too so a fairly common item.

just look at the listings, pretty self explanatory, the premium item is 652VG0200, £40.14

standard item 652VG0201 £31.80

GSF heathrow depot have 3 according to the inventory.

Yes - why pay more money for something that isn't the correct part?

Oh, and don't trust anything that GSF or ECP comes back with using your registration plate!

17.5mm was used on some rare early base models without a brake servo.

19mm was used on all base models with a servo

20.6mm was used on GTi's and some other higher spec models, with either 2, 3, or 4 outlets depending on spec (ie ABS, 1.6 or 1.9)

I thought disc/disc was 20.6mm and disc/drum (eg 1.6 GTi) was 19mm.

Not in the uk, all GTI models should have the 20.6mm master cylinder but this could be different in other countires such as Oz.

I got a Bendix one this morning and that is the manufacturers code on the box. Got mine from GSF Heathrow for £40.14 GSF part number (as mentioned above) 652VG0200.

Reason I ask is found these on eBay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brake-Master-Cylinder-Peugeot-205-309-/110821533180?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19cd7a65fc#ht_4009wt_689

The seller has confirmed they are genuine Bendix and quoted the manufactures number when I asked him. Seems to good to be true?

Can't (or rather couldn't - they sold out earlier this evening) really go wrong with a genuine Bendix part for £20 delivered
