Have you connected the smaller wire to the 8mm hex nut terminal on the alternator?

Who was the wiring carried out by?

Has the small wire been connected to the car side of the loom?

Err the last bit don't sound right. There should only be 2 wires going to the alternator, one to the 13mm nut and one to 8mm nut.

Is it a 205 or 306 alternator?

Post a pic if your not sure and we can help.

Something does sound amiss though with that cable with the spade terminal.

If it's a 306 alternator it won't have a spade terminal going to it.

What did the volt meter read when you measure the volts coming out the alternator? Should be 14.4v when charging.

ummmm i dnt no then.its got two bolt on terminals towards the top of alternator and spade 1 towards under side,i didnt have engine running when put volt meter direct to aternator coz i removed the inlet manifold to gain better acsses to the wireing, when it was running i just tested the volt reading across battery both with engine off and running
