Check Engine Light

Recommended Posts

Guys, sometimes my check engine light comes on., the flickrs., then goes off, then flickers etc. what manages this light? The car works perfectly, all vital signs are perfect. It is a CAT engine, could the CAt be toast? What about the Lambar sensor? What about a electrical issue. Some help would be great please as I am stuck!

They all do that, Plug it into a Diagnostic machine and I'll bet you'll see the carbon canister valve faulty.

1628F0 is the part number, But I would check it first, Mind not many have the equipment for this.

My CTI does the same thing, I clear the fault and it's OK from anything from a few minutes to over a few hundred miles, Joy's of old German Electronics

Brilliant, you have been very helpful. Where is the part located roughly? Do Peugeot still have the part? Thanks again.

Still stocked I believe, It's normally down under the pipe between the TB and AFM, 2 pin plug on it with a pipe from either the TB or the Air pipe to the carbon canister in the wheel arch

Miles, Got the part and fitted it. But it did not make much difference. Any other ideas on the flickery, inconsitent light? Could it just be electrical? The cars vital signs are fine.

As said you need to get it on a Diag machine to see what codes it brings up,

Not sure what machine is needed and who would have one around here? What shall I ask for? Thanks again.

A old Peugeot Diag Machine, But most dealer's now would have thrown them away for new equipment, I know my local dealer could only do the OBD plug and not the 2 pin plugs the 205's have.

I think if you have a search you can add a bulb and count the flash's or something but not something I;ve done due to having the right box

If this is for the low mileage GTI then the chances are it may need a good thrash to get it nice and warm and possibly clean up the lambda. I am guessing it will be something to do with emissions.

What is the lambda? Is it a sensor? Is it still available? Thanks. (This is for the other GTi I just bought)

Got it figured out. No fault codes on the engine or electrics. Turned out to be a problem with the actual light on the dash!
