Putting The 205 Away For A While

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Due to a growing family (child no. 2 on it's way!) I am purchasing a car I feel will be better suited until my Mrs gets her license. I am going to be putting the 205 away for a while, I am just wondering how would be best to store it??

I am putting it in a dry barn on stands with the wheels off, covered, disconnect the battery and was going to lay a bed of charcoal underneath it to attract moisture (don't know if it's worth doing this!?). I have about 5 tonnes of charcoal doing nothing!

I am wondering what to do engine wise...drain coolant?? But thinking this isn't a good idea as I will probably fire her up once every 2 - 3 weeks.

I am going to replace the cambelt and water pump this week along with a few other bits that need doing.

I am slightly sad about doing this but even with one child (8 months old) it's just not big enough, especially when going out for the day with the push chair on board and the Mrs decides we should do a big food shop!! The shopping ends up all in the foot well and on the back seats so I can imagine what it will be like with 2 children! :D Plus the ear ache hurts!

Just to let you know (don't laugh or slate me please) the car I am buying is a VW Jetta mk2! I quite like it even though it's old but the extra doors and bigger boot I feel will be much needed.

Cheers,

Mike

Just to add to the previous thread, if you are storing a car for longer than 12 months you have to redeclare the sorn after 12 months. (Family friend found out the hard way).

I've also seen this somewhere, SORN will be an indefinite thing once you apply for it, good idea IMO, common sense isn't usually displayed by the DVLA.
