Old Style Lettering Number Plates.

Recommended Posts

Hello all

I would like some of the older style number plates with the bigger lettering on them. Does anyone know where I can get some made up?

Thanks, Dave.

I was after some of these too and am currently in comms with a couple of people to do the older font and including original dealership details and logos.

The issue is that new number plates for cars must be made to the current regulations, with 50mm wide Charles Wright font, not the 57mm wide earlier font. This doesn't mean that the older plates already on your car are illegal, simply, new plates must be to the new regs. I tried lots of the online places and drew a blank, but eventually have a couple of guys working on them. When made they would be classed as signs / show plates to be legally sold for off road use only, but what is the likelihood of being stopped for having correct period plates?

I'd love a new front plate to match my original rear one :)

Try Framptons. I had new ones made up for a 1976 Lancia Fulvia and they had no issues with doing pressed steel aluminium which would be correct for the period.

I've got pressed aluminium with raised letters - no GB flag or similar either.

Old school.

I tried Framptons but they could not do acrylic, only pressed steel, which was not what I wanted.

Current type of work in progress....
