Hey Guys,

I have started a facebook page for BakerBM :)

As well as keeping you upto date on new products, offers, discounts and product features. I'll also start uploading all the pics we have taken along the way with our nearly completed 306T16 track build.

We are hoping the main benifit from the page will come from *new product* ideas from members on here and similar forums! All ideas are welcome! :o

I have started racing an F1 stock car too. So expect some no Peugeot updates

Here's a link to the page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/BakerBM/358044574222720?sk=wall

Hope to see you there!

Stew

Alright Carl,

Which team are you in? Could I poach you ? LOL my teams a bit lacking at the moment!

I'm as novice as them come! I've done two races:

The 1st was at Birmingham for the Gala meet. I didn't fancy getting out on track until the points shoot-out was decided, so decided the Gala meet was a good time to start.

I had been going down to Birmingham Wheels for a few of the previous weeks practise sessions on a Wednesday night. I was hoping there would be other F1's there, so I could get a feel for doing some laps with other cars on track. No such luck!

The racing was a bit of a baptism of fire. I just did my best to stay out of the "big guns" way. I did have a good few laps with a yellow top and even gave him a little tap.

One of the plates in the clutch put an end to the nights racing though...…

I got a mention on premier sports so I was chuffed with that! :)

The 2nd meet was at Cov for the Christmas Cracker meet.

Still being a novice I started from the back. In my 1st heat I had some good laps with no.27 (Higgy), who had returned as a red top.

I qualified for the final so was happy with that. I took a bit of crossweight out of the car to try and stop it pushing-on.

Everything had been going well until I lined up at the back of the grid for the final LOL When the green flag dropped I carried way to much speed into the 1st corner and hit Mr Higgy quite hard (I didn't even mean too). Being hit by a novice probably doesn't look to good. So after he has caught me, two laps later, he gives me an almighty thump !! I hope the hits gets easy to take LOL It was really shock to the system!

After I bounced off the fence I ended up mounting another car and my race was over..

I went out for the GN but I was struggling a bit. I hit the fence on the exit of the final turn on lap 4/5. I Buckled the rear wheel and bent the front axle.

We got the car mended to get my brother out in the mechanics race. Only for him to cause quite a lot of damage to the car and he breaks his foot in the process!!

As for doing Tar or Shale this year.. I'm not sure yet! Its got a 454small block, so I'm thinking Tarmac mainly, but would still like to do Coventry Shale, as its local.

haha i'll help you with as much info as ive got.

I spanner for gaz fox 48, he was a superstar in f2s a few years back, and took the plunge into f1s 3 years back.

finding time to race is the hard part works been really busy

Did the car feel better after you took some cross out of it, are you running in neg cross weight? what are you setting cross, inside and rear weight at?

dont think the hits get any easier you just learn to ride the hit with practice. But if they want to hit you good your going to be seeing stars im affraid!! haha

If you made it to the final on your first full meeting your doing well!! quite alot strugle with throttle control on shale as beginners.

I'll look out for you this year and say hi.

For Birmingham I ran 48% cross weight and seemed to be able to get decent braking up front. But need to take one of the calipers off the back as I couldn't wind enough off it!

For Coventry I ran about 52.5-53% cross weight. I found that when I went on the brakes, I could kick the back out, but when going from the brake pedal back to throttle the car would straighten up and push a little. I took 1% out of the cross for the final. The car definately felt better for the short time I was in it LOL The track had dried quite a bit, so this may have influenced things a bit. Does this sound like the right ball park?

I was near the regulations on inside and rear weight. I'll have to check exactly what they were.

Lesson learnt.. Don't hit a red top...

We tend to stick to neg cross weight around 49% inside as close to the limit around 52.7 and rear 55% because garrys a large bloke so dont need any more rear weight lol. how much lob do you have in the ( lean to the inside) if its straightning up have you got any leed in the rear axle.

Getting the rear tyre stagger right is a big factor and the right griped tyres, You'll notice the top lads have a mountain of tyres with them and usually wait until the last min until they choose to see how the tracks looking.

Its all a learning curve, but very adictive,

and as long as your having a laugh doing it, you cant beat it

You'll have to keep out for our coach aswell 90mph ribble valley rocket!! haha

Is that 49% on shale? I was under the impression you needed above 50% to give good drive out of the corners?

The car was sitting fairly level.

My Axle has been parrallel upto now. I was not going to touch this setting until I have got a good idea on how the other alterations effect the drive of the car.

My spring rate was about 350-375 lbs (shale) & 425-450lb (tarmac), I feel this might be a little high...
