Engine Stalls After Reving

Recommended Posts

swervygerdy

Hi all

Picked up another 205 gti recently for humble money. The body is fairly straight with little rust so im pretty chuffed.

The engine starts and idles well but once reved it will stall. Ive searched the forum and cleaned the sad and retracked the afm but the problem persists.

Has anyone else experienced this issue, could it be the techiometric relay and where would i get a new one?

Sounds like it could be the Throttle Position Sensor. Does it still do it with the TPS unplugged?

It's the black thing thats on the throttle body, it faces the radiator.

mine goes to stall when the air fuel ratio is off, but I'm running twin 4 carbs dunno is that is relevant for an injection engine

I think it just needs setting up properly. I can't remember how off the top of my head but I'll have a search.

Check you throttle switch is correctly adjusted (clicks as soon as moved away from Idle) & the throttle cable is adjusted correctly. If you have a Haynes manual you might as well check the throttle switch is giving the correct resistance when closed, on part throttle & full throttle whilst you have access.

Throttle switch testing: Between terminals 2 and 18, the resistance should be zero with the throttle closed and infinity with the throttle (even partially) open. Between terminals 3 and 18, the resistance should be zero with the throttle fully open and infinity with the throttle partially open or closed

:)
