Gauging Interest

A friend of mine, Jeff Skitt of J.S. Engineering is thinking about bringing his trade stall to this year's Pugfest. He's done the Rally Day at Castle Coombe for the last couple of years, selling mostly Ford Escort Mk1 and Mk2 components along with a few Peugeot parts. While there are a load of companies out there making parts for Escorts, Jeff has started to turn his sights more towards the Peugeot market, as there only seems to be very few companies out there selling "Motorsport"/ modified/ uprated components.

The plan is to bring a selection of components to the show - to display, but also to sell. There is also a slight possibility that I will be bringing the shell that I'm building, with the components that he makes bolted on, so that people can see the actual parts in situ.

While he already makes rose jointed lower arms, and replaceable pin, non-adjustable lower arms, at this moment, he's machining me a big brake kit for the rear of my car.

Plans are also in place for the "Torsion Bar Screw" that seems difficult to get hold of.

Rear trailing arm shafts,

Phosphur Bronze rear axle bush/bearings.

Rose Jointed Gear Linkage Kits.

Bronze Bushes for the gear selector arms.

Bilstein type Coil over strut casings

Lower spring pans for 75mm springs to fit above casings

Top spring pans

Group A Rose jointed top mounts

Bronze bushes for Bilstein strut casings

Revised wheel stud conversion

Rear axle solid mounting kit - 2 types

Group A wheel studs

Drop Pin kits for rose jointed arms

Rear Stub Axle pins

Lower engine mount fork bush

Rear Big Brake Kit

Upgraded suspension bolt kit.

Modified front Anti Rollbar Drop Link

And possibly a roll over body "spit" for rotating shells for painting/seam welding etc.

Would anybody be interested in any of this stuff, or maybe suggest more parts that are difficult to get hold of.

We'll be more than happy to take on board any suggestions

Cheers

From being involved with a company who makes mainly bits for Minis, and having been to quite a few shows, what I will say is, do not expect to take a massive amount of money on the day. If you treat it as a marketing exercise and look for increase in business in the few months after the show, then you are on the right track. Usually when going to Mini shows we might take enough cash on shiny small bits and bobs to cover the diesel there and back.

That's the plan really. He usually takes one or two of everything with him, plus a bundle of business cards and flyers. Most of the orders come in during the weeks after the shows.

Basically, the ball joint is taken out, the hole is bored out, a circlip groove machined into the hole. A spherical bearing is then pressed into the hole, held in place with a circlip. A pin is then machined which acts as the ball joint pin, held in place by a lock nut underneath the spherical bearing. Only a slot is cut into the pin which makes it stronger. All the parts are replaceable, which makes it a cheaper option than replacing complete arms. This modification can only be done to factored arms and NOT genuine Pug ones, as the casting around the ball joint is thicker.

cool, just what I was looking into myself but don't have the facilities, how thick does the material need to be around the hole?

any idea of costs? I know a spherical joint is only a tenner.

if you wish to enquire further about getting a stall at Pugfest you need to get in touch with PSCUK (formerly PSOOC), Chairman@psooc.com should get you in touch with Tony Philpott, not sure why you were asking on here

Not sure about material thickness, what I do know is that it can't be done on a genuine Peugeot arm.

Price wise, I'll find out for you. I did post some photos of this modification on this forum some time ago...

Thanks for the info regarding Pugfest. I'll get in touch with Tony Philpott. Just been on the PSCUK website, and it seems that I only have 180 days to get things ready :o

As for why I was asking on here.........I did'nt see the point asking on a VW forum ;)

Rite.........IGNORE the end of the arm. This was a left over bit of an arm that was cut off in order to make a set of rose jointed ones. The left over ball joint was then experimented on. Photo's are'nt very clear, but gives you the idea of the modification. There is NO welding involved. The pin now has a little slot machined in to it as a pinch bolt locator, and not a groove all the way around it like is shown here.

will you be concentrating on just 205's or the main peugeot / citroen range?

Have you any more details on the rear big brake conversion? does it allow use or the mechanical handbrake for MOT's?

At the moment, it's mainly 205 stuff, but anything can be made or modified. We are looking at 2 different calipers in the AP range at the moment, but all I can say is that they will be M.O.T. legal.

Not too sure on the price at the moment as it's the first set that's being built. Obviously, the most expensive parts will be the calipers themselves, and the caliper brackets will have to be custom made. Everything else is simple....

I spoke to Jeff at Rallyday on the weekend, he said around £150 to do these, a bit of a faff as they can't be done on his usual mill, and they do need to be aftermarket arms which have more meat, he said they need to be roughly 20mm wide and 20mm tall.

I've got a few 205 and 309 wishbones I can measure up to check what they are.

I have checked the two pairs of 309 wishbones I have with tired balljojnts, seems they must all be aftermarket as they are at least 40mm wide and 20mm tall, so ideal for modifying.

Ideal. If you want them done you can give them to Dan, and I'll pass them on to Jeff
