Expansion Tank Cap

Recommended Posts

sharpm

hi

i bought a new expansion tank cap from a pug dealer recently for my phase 1.5 1.9 and its black plastic rather than metal, but part number appears to be correct - 130685.

Doesn't seem to fit as well as the metal one and im getting coolant loss from the overflow when hot.

anybody seen a plastic cap before or has it been bagged up wrong by pug, and should in fact be a metal one??

thanks,

sounds like you haven't turned it far enough.

they have been plastic for at least 5 years, that's when I replaced mine and though its a little tight it doesn't leak.

I used to have a metal one but have since replaced it with a plastic one (1990 H) to put it on I need to line up the gaps and give it a good whack, and it takes a bit of brute force to take it off. Very easy to accidently put on 1 side but not the other.

standard 1 bar.

1.4 bar cap from later cars can be fitted easily, they may need very small modification.

Ive just bought one of these:

Its a Stant racing cap. Fits pretty well, and has a nifty lever to release the pressure down the overflow before you can take the cap off

May I ask where you got the above and the cost?

the plastic one is correct as confirmed by pug, only old stock will be metal.
