309 Shafts And Rack Length

Recommended Posts

jon.ford

I have fitted 309 shafts, Rose jointed arms standard top mounts. I intend to run about 1.5 degrees of neg camber. I have a 205 gti power rack.

The question is Will I run short of thread on track rod end/ drum stick ( is 309 rack the same as 205)

There should be plenty of thred left on the TRE's. As long as the amount of thred engaged is the same or greater than the size of thred there's no problem. E.g m12- 12mm engaged.

I definately had a problem with the 205 rod ends when I went 309 lengths, there was not as much thread screwed into them as I'd have liked - but my rack was an unknown at the time, having come with the car, so could well have had 1600 rods screwed into it or something. Put it together and you'll know if it's not right, as you'll have far too little thread going into the track rod ends for comfort. I sourced some new 309 track control arms and some new rod ends while I was at it, and all was fine.
