Footman James Classic Policy

Recommended Posts

Phil H

I asked them last week, 10-15 years for 205 gti

This is correct as I insured with them today. They also include breakdown cover too...quite handy for a 205 !

I was with them as well before I put the car off the road a year ago. I got free breakdown cover as well. Came in pretty handy. The do agreed value as well.

I got a quote from them today, it seems their prices are great if you are limiting the mileage right down, the quote went from well over a grand to about 550 by taking my mileage from 8000 (unlimited to them) to 6000... I recon at a push I can limit it to that, but I'm not sure...

There are a few mods to my engine though, but I'm not sure what they count as adding extra pricing to it, and how much percentage they add for what.....??

What is the minimum vehicle age for a classic policy?

I think it depends on the car, my 99T BMW M Coupe is insured on a classic policy at 11/12 years old.

they didn't recognise the 309 as either a modern nor a classic so wouldn't quote me, however previously I did have my 405 insured with them just fine on a limited mileage agreed value policy.

I cant wait till im 25 in May then I can insure the Gti again. They have given me a great quote. Shame they wont insure younger drivers otherwise they could be making money out of me know.

They teased me.

£176 for my 205 with the GTi6 conversion, agreed valuation of 2k.

But they said they wouldn't start it until March, on my 25th Birthday. But as the car passed it's MOT and was running in November last year, I decided to pay over the odds to get it on the road.

Seeing as I have hardly used it, I should have waited

Okay guys not meaning to piss into your beer but it's fine to go for the cheapest quote on a policy but has anyone experienced making a claim from footman james?? Not that i personally have but you want to make sure that your pride and joy is properly repaired to your satisfaction in the event of a bump!!!I recall dealing with Firebond a few years ago and personally i found the a bunch of crooks that were just out to shaft you!!!Yes the policies were cheap but at the expense of quality cover.

Can anyone tell me if there is some link between Footman James and Firebond as i put in a google search for firebond and one of the top seaches found is Footman James?????

Google says-

Firebond provide specialist insurance for classic, performance and modified vehicles. Now part of Footman James.

From what I've heard Adrian Flux are similar to this, I've seen on here that they Don't like to pay out and take a long time when they do...?? I think they're all pretty similar at the end of the day now, none of them want to pay out and will do everything they can to make sure they don't have to....

Got a quote from FJ the other lunchtime, £40 p/a more than I'm currently paying with Heritage so not so good for me, I'll give them a miss I think.

Interesting the mention about AF as well. I have never found them to be competitive at all and they come across like a complete bunch of monkeys!

As a professional in this specific sector I'd avoid them with a bargepole.
