Taxing A Sorned Car

I am getting a car off my Gran as she has stopped driving it is sorned but has 10 months left on mot, am I right in thinking i just get her to send off logbook a few days before I want to use it then

- go to the PO with new keeper supplement, insurance certificate and mot

and thats it?

I was looking on their website and it confused me saying something along the lines of can only be taxed for 2 months with the new keeper supplement.

It means that you can only go to the post office to obtain tax for 2 months after you've bought the car, the assumption being that you'll have received the V5 in your name by that point. You can of course buy 6 or 12 months tax as normal at the post office, just means that they won't accept the new keeper supplement if you tried to use it to tax the car in say 3 months time.

You don't even need to send it off a few days before you want to use it, you can just rip out the new keeper bit and as you say take insurance and mot down the posties and off you go!

 

Sometimes doing it online is a faf because it takes the database a few hours to update the insurance.
