Berlingo Gearbox 4.53

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm trying to identify a year 2000 Citroen Berlingo gearbox.

It had 4GN2 stamped on the final drive housing and the final drive ratio was 17x77 (4.53)

Is this a Be3 or a Be4?

Looking for a lower C.W.P. and was wondering if this is suitable.

thanks

Richard

The 4GN2 was standard on the 1.9D n/a DW8 engine, it is a BE3 box.

2000 would be a mix of BE3 and BE4 like most 6 speed box's are, Problem is the splines on the Pinion Shaft, these vary in dia so not always suitable but there are ways around it,

A 2000 Berlingo which is a Mk1 uses a BE3-5 speed gearbox. It does not use a 6 speed box.

nobody said they did... miles said they are a hybrid of be3/4, just like the 6 speed boxes.

not that it matters greatly, much of them is compatible and that which isn't is not difficult to overcome.

1998 be3-4/6 gearbox, see the BE4 stamp mark.

Thanks for the above info.

So assuming it is a BE3, I should be able to use the 4.53 output shaft and crown wheel from the Berlingo gearbox with other BE3 ratios, e.g. 205 1.9 BE3 gearset?

Alternatively I am thinking that with some machining work to the 3rd/4th gear cluster, the 306 Gti-6 3/4/5th gearset could be used with this gearbox?

No the GTi6 gear-set cannot be used as there are Gears machined onto the shafts which cannot be changed.

I'd hate to think of the cost for machining thou
