Engine Differences

Recommended Posts

Right this is probably a very silly question to be asking but im new to 205's and dont know alot about engines!

I was wondering whats the difference between the 1.9 gti block and the mi16 block? I know the mi 16 is 16 valve and the gti 8 v but arnt the valves in the head?

Like i say probably a very silly question and i dont need to know for any reason other than wanting to understand 205's a bit better!

The MI16 block has a different top mounting, the liners are a bit thicker, the crank is different (balance related I believe, same throw though), It has under piston oil spray bars too, pistons have cut outs for the 4 valves.

Probably more as I don't know a great deal about MI16s.

not all of the XU blocks have the thread for the 16v cambelt idler (though as far as i know the hole is there for it to be tapped), the liners have webbing on the mi16, some say for strength, some say for heat dissapation, Im sure theres a difference in the crank where there is a woodruff key on one for the oil pump and the other is held by friction (hopes and dreams) of the crank bolt.
