Some Questions After Engine Rebuild

Recommended Posts

Happy new all.

Spent some time over the holidays in the garage refitting the engine to my 205 after a timing belt failure.

Im almost done and have a sensor left over (i'm hoping its nothing to do with the 205 and its just ended up in my parts box - optimistic i know) and a plug that I cant figure out where it connects to. Hoping some of you guys can point me in the right direction - I've attached some photos.

Its a rally car with an oil cooler fitted and I'm not certain I've got the pipes the right way round. The pipes come out of the filter housing and into the oil cooler, top and bottom - does the orientatioin matter?

I run a tran x plate type diff and have always used millers diff oil, LS 80W-140 1204 'BM'. I've read on here that this aint so good for the syncro's in the be3 box, should i change to the Total Transmission BV 75w-80? The diff has always been quiet and never gave any bother but I would'nt like to be doing damage to the box.

Anthony

Plug looks like the ECU temp sensor. Depending on the age of the car, the sensor this plugs into will either be located on a small inline coolant block sort of underneath the distributor (early cars pre-1991) or on the back of the thermostat housing (later cars 1991 onwards). If you've swapped the engine from early to late or vice-versa, you might need to swap parts over from the previous engine or extend the wiring slightly.

Sensor looks like the high coolant temperature warning light switch. This should screwed into the back of the thermostat housing.

And yes, BE boxes really do need 75W80 oil - the Tran-X seems fine with it and my one has done many miles without issue using that oil.
