Swapping Heater Blower

hi guys my heater blower started to set on fire so must change it, can i fit one out of a non gti model

Yes you can. Head under the dash in the passenger footwell, it is secured with 3 screws.

If your getting one off a scrapper, then worth grabbing the rheostat, variable resistor, which sits next to the blower and is held in with 2-3 screws, as these are a common problem also.

thanks for comment cos ive been quoted 42quid for second hand one which i think is a bit steep

My heather blower doesn't work when controlled by the heater controls.

 

I've tried connecting another set of controls (the white bit behind the front knobs panel) but still nothing.

 

It blows on full when connected directly by a couple of wires from the controls connector to the fusebox.

 

As the motor seems fine, it should be down to knackered rheostat, right?
