Different Alloys On Your 205

Recommended Posts

Tesstuff

After a look through some of my photos earlier I was surprised to see I had used five different sets of wheels on my car in four years.

Is that normal or do some of you change more often than that?

The car started with its standard Gentry 14 inch alloys.

Then I fancied a change to the 15 inch 1.9 Speedlines.

I had a weird set up for a short time when I had a little mixture

The change to the 406 v6 Coupe 16 inch alloys came next.

And finally my move to try the c5 steelies.

Anyone had more changes on the same car? :)

Weight basically - they're not actually steel despite their looks, but rather alloy, and weigh in significantly less than most 15" alloy wheels.

Could be good on a rally car then!

They are approximately half the weight of a 1.9 Speedline (and about a third the weight of a 406 v6 alloy, as I found out)

In as much as they will help reduce unsprung weight to the car.

Gentry alloys seem to survive best on rally cars. I see a battered old 405 locally with gentry/gtx alloys fitted which annoys me greatly as they're quite difficult to source at a reasonable price.

So why do they never fetch much money each time I see them come up for sale on forums or eBay?

They don't fetch a lot really although prices have gone up a bit and the amount of wanted adds have also risen.

I've managed to get 12 incase I damage any but not getting any more

It's not a 205 but...

I have had quite a few sets of wheels on my 106 GTI but I am now onto the 11th year of ownership.

Original 14" 106 GTI alloys (lent briefly to a mate who wanted to see what they would look like on his Rallye, he then crashed  )

16" Fox Racing 5 spokes. (Bent these when I found out about the back stepping out and ended up in a field  )

17" Momo X2's (Fully Pimping with a 55mm drop, it handled like a trolley jack  )

1.6 205 14" alloys (When I had grown out of my fast and furious stage  )

1.9 205 GTI alloys

14" 306 Diesel alloys

405 T16 Alloys

:)

They are most likely cheap because they dont look like alloys, they look more like wheels caps and C5 allies look better IMO.

I would think C5 allies wont be strong enough to last very long in rallies.

In the last 4 years, on my 306, i have had 14" Harriers, 17" Black Team Dynamics, 15" 205 1.9 GTI speedlines, a mixture of 1.9 Speedlines and 405mi16 15"s, and finally, a full set of 405 Mi16 wheels.

But thats still only 5!
