Hello!

Was wondering if anyone gets there gas from Energas?

I'm going the sign up and get some gas tomorrow and thought it'd be a good idea to ask on her what i should be getting, is it just argon which is the best and what colour bottle is that?

Cheers Mark

Pure Argon is more for use with aluminium welding than steel (i guess that's what you're welding) There are a few different mixes of gas you can go for depending on what you want to be welding, things like material, thickness and technique need to be taken in to account before choosing.

typically an argon-co2 mix is what you need for mild steel, co2 will do, pure argon for ss and aluminium

You will get a salesman come to speak to you when setting up an account, they will ask what your using it for and recommend you a bottle.

Energas were a fortune last time I got prices off them.

For Mig welding steel you'll want either their MigWeld 5 mix (93% Argon, 5% CO2, 2% O2), or if your welder is a bit underpowered then try the MigWeld Universal, it won't give quite as neat a weld but will give you a bit more heat for thicker steel.

They weren't nearly as expensive as BOC when I was with them! That was a few years back now..

As said though, the salesman will tell you which gases you need for your type of welding, they're just about the only salesmen you can trust!

BOC's prices have risen quite a bit in the last 2 years I've been with them. Going to cancel it soon I think

I get my gas from Jawel paints, no account needed. Think I paid about £33 for the last bottle.

How do you do that though? I was with Air Products and they were more expensive than BOC due to their fancy-valved bottles.

They do normal bottles too, I get argon from them and the rental is about £20 cheaper than BOC and the refills are half the price!

I get my MIG gas in a 12L bottle for lugging around - £10 per year for the bottle rental, £22 for a refill (which includes collection + delivery)
