1.4 Head Gasket

Recommended Posts

Alan_M

Upon a quick inspection on my sheddy 306, I've got oil in the coolant. Not showing any other signs of gasket failure and there is water in oil as far as I can see.

Now, whilst it won't take me long to put a new gasket on I'd like to sort the problem. I've got an oil leak over the front left corner of the engine and seemingly this is a common problem on TUs. I understand the gasket on the oil gallery can go (strange it's gone this quickly though - 3 months/4000 miles) and the solution is to use some gasket sealer with the head gasket. Is this correct?

What i am concerned about is if it's the liner seals? Any way I can check?

Or does anyone know a half decent TU 1.4/1.6 going cheap?

i have got to do the h/g on my 1.4 306 over xmas as its leaking from the front left oilway.

is it alot of mayo or just a little round the cap? mine has some on the inside of the bottle and cap and have never worried about it.

i plan on using wellseal when i do the gasket.

Is it an alloy block? I thought all the 306's were iron blocked TU's

Nah, mine's alloy. All the early cars on single point injection were ally afaik.

No mayo in the oil cap whatsoever. There is brown poo on the surface of the coolant within the radiator.

I was thinking the same, but Hylomar (I've an ample supply) around the main oilway on the block. Seems to be a common problem on TUs.
