The question is, can you find part 3? I watched the other two parts a few weeks back, but it's frustrating when you're missing the last bit...

I like the bit about half way through the first one where "a few hundred F1 engines don't warrant an investment in computer aided design", as they carve prototype engines out of wood by hand.

+1. Part 1 was posted on our motorsport soc page a few weeks ago, but I've not found any reference to the rest of it online since. Did anyone else notice the BBC had the clip of a young(er) aerodynamicist Ross Brawn in the build up to the last GP?

I miss Keith Duckworth. He was robbed by the french in my opinion. The narrator even said, "because the governing body for F1 was french then the Renault Turbo engine was allowed.

Sweet, i think i've watched them before but this should help kill some time this evening! :D

These cars are insane, experiencing them run is an amazing experience alone!! Senna's Toleman Hart on the dyno;

Had this in a few weeks ago too, but it didnt run as the fuel didn't turn up! So it's coming back soon, can't wait & going to try and get a decent camera tha can take the volume!

The idea of using compound turbos by Duckworth there, and now they are bringing back turbos they say they are going to allow compound turbos.

I didn't realise there was a third bit. There are also some other great documentaries on there like "will to win" senna, "too fast to race, group b" and "secret life of f1"

Cheers

Also known as 'Right to win' on there - I actually prefer this to 'the film' because it takes alot more opinion from those that did know him well and depicts a more realistic relationship between The legend & The Professor, rather than the film which makes it look like they hated each other!!

Nice find! I love how much detail they explain things in on older documentaries, if that were Horizon it'd be 5 mins of content and 2 hours of pointless CGI.

"The engine will have to withstand up to 12,000rpm. If it doesn't.." (10 minute movie of a planet exploding)

except it wouldn't be rpm it would be going round in circles very very very fast. Thats almost the same as, insert utter bollox metaphor.

Looking forward to watching these when home! Especially the compound turbo stuff, is this literally turbos in series or energy revcovery systems that were first seen in the 80's!?

They did......

but they were friends at the end of 1993 - check the podium celebration in Adelaide 1993.

One clip they left out of the film was this

Great finds here. Sat and watched them all on the iPad with headphones in! Beats the soaps and talking to my wife!!!

I find it fascinating. It seems weird that all the things they are monitoring and changing on the dyno, between 6 men, I can see and change on my £400 laptop, plugged into a £500 ecu in my 20 year old French hatchback!

yep, you found words for the thing i wasn't able to say, they were doing it for the first time! almost ever perhaps. With new kit, and only first principles / oscilloscopes to help fault find. heady days.

With new kit...

I found the fact that the dyno was the same one that ran the first DFV 20yrs previous, quite interesting!!
