Gearbox Problems...

Recommended Posts

danpass15

I was driving on satruday to do some shopping with my gf and when I got to the shopping centre and was parking it was crunching really bad in reverse. So once I had parked I tried putting it in reverse again but a bit harder and next thing I knew I could not select any gears. Checked the gear linkages and the cable, both of which were fine so I called the AA and got towed home. Im only using a 1.6 box on the gti6 engine and I dont think this is helping!

First thoughts are it could be the clutch arm bush but due to all this rain and currently being off work sick with man flu I haven't been able to look.

As above - check that the gearbox is actually properly attached to the engine, as it's far from unheard of for it to come loose, particularly if you didn't ensure that the dowels were present when you fitted the box. The lower rear bolt in particular loves to come loose and fall out.

If it's a BE1 gearbox, it could be that the clutch quadrant arm thing has bent/broken.
