Ill give you more info when you come down mate. Will take me forever to explain!

Bit of progress. I have ordered some magnaflow race boxes from the states to make a new exhaust system. The current one is too loud, was slightly above the noise limit. Its up in the for sale section if anyone is interested!.

Also have the correct offset disc bells for my AP's now, just need to sort a the caliper mounting brackets and i can get them fitted :D

Where did you get the bells done in the end Matt?

ebay :D I found some with the correct offset which were part of a ford kit!. Just had to open out the centre bore

I have done some rough drawings for the brackets, just need to perfect them. Might be giving you a shout if my mate wont do them in a few dinner hours!!

not a straight forward fit, a lot of fabrication has gone into all the mounts.

Some progress :D

After speaking to some of the best custom exhaust manufactures in the UK i decided to drop down too a 2.5" exhaust system. I always knew the 3" system was over the top, i didn't realise how much effect it would have on the noise!. The exhaust builder i spoke to also put me off using his £350 each repackable boxes because they are not really needed for non competion cars.

I decided on magnaflow boxes from the states and used the exhaust builder for the materials and custom bends

Full system Welded and ready for fitting

Im really happy now. The system is so much quieter and still make a good noise :D Ill find out on my next trackday if its under the limit but im sure it will be!.

I have also been busy working on the AP brakes. All fitted now and looking good, again not been able to try them out yet but im sure they will be upto the job.

Looking good! Size of pipe work including tailpipe have a big effect on noise, Had to put a 3" bung in my mates evo which has the typical 5" tailpipe and that dropped the decibels right down.

Lovely Matt. It's very satisfying making your own exhaust!

Could you tell more about the brake disc bell housing? Where, what, who, how much?

They are Grp A escort rally car bells. Perfect fit after a bit off machining on the centre bore. I had qoutes of around £200 to make new ones so managed to save a fair bit buying used bells.

what a awesome build, looks lovely and clean under the engine bay, 300 is what my aim will, be with the std gti6 engine, once i save a little for remapping.

did you not fancy using a restrictor like the lynx conversion to control the boost, then it wont climb over 7000,

as i can rev to almost 8000 and not have to worry :)

also, who i your mapper that has a 600bhp wrc escort?

we did meet at donny last year, sadly due to noise i couldnt drive flat out :(, best fun of that day was when it rained...lol

Didn't want to fit a restrictor as it will cause extra heat which may loose me a few bhp!. It will also drop the boost level throughout the rev range so means less power where i need it most (4-7k)

mikeanics did the mapping. He does rallying in a wrc spec escort cosworth

Yeah i remember seeing you, i also had been black flagged for noise :(

i need to fit a boost gauge to see what my boost is doing and keep an eye on it, so dont know if it tails off,

did they allow you back on? did you have a turbo or ITB's back then?

Yeah i was allowed back on after dinner but had to kepp it below 6k. It wastn't exhaust noise it was ITB music :D

When it rained later in the afternoon i gave up, was for the best as i was running bald r888's!

Just wondering if I could find brake bells for 205 from somewhere. Seems that those also have to be made custom... Well, it's just money.

Update time...

Made some decent progress over the last few months. Finally happy with the S/C bracket, its now running the standard auto tensioner which is taking up the slack in the belt from high revs or gear changes. Polycarb windows and heated windscreen have been fitted. Also been for a few plays on a private road to test the new brakes and exhaust, both spot on :D

Now i am happy with the car i thought it would be a good idea to see what it can do. I went to santa Pod this weekend and pulled some good times. I was averaging low 13s but my best was a 12.7 @ 117mph.
