What Engine Should I Use

Recommended Posts

Daniel306

i have a 205 dimma turbo that i am rebuilding, the original TT engine cracked a piston at 50k and the car has been sitting since 2004, it will cost alot to fix it with forged pistons and a emerald ecu, so i have been thinning about putting a supercharged Gti 6 into it, that would cost about the same as fixing the old engine, anyone get any ideas for the best power vs cost?

Rebuilding what you've got will be much cheaper I would think?! Period mods too!!

Surely it all depends on the budget you have to spend??

Easy and cheap would be the 1.9

Not so much would be a gti6 supercharged, or rebuild of ur current one...

But there's a lot in in between.....

Easy and cheap would actually be also easier to find in decent order, 1.6. ;)

A good 1.9 TT will leave a Supercharged 6 engine all day long with the extra torque, Yes it may need a rebuild but Liners are cheap, Pistons a fair price, Turbo rebuild and a ECU & Loom, then it's 200bhp plus and in excess of 200Ft Lb of torque's too

Do you mean the low boost or high boost ?

I was under the impression a supercharged 6 was putting out around 240 bhp and 215 lb/ft.

Could try the bare block of a 2.0 8v turbo and put all you TT stuff on it (incl the cam).

Around the 240 mark, Not sure on the Torque but as charges take allot of Power and Torque from the engine to drive it you never get anywhere near the Turbo torque, which on the High boost set up is good as you reduce the risk of the box going POP

When i got the car it had a new turbo in the boot and the receipt was for £475, the new pistons and rods are about £900 and the ecu is £750 unless i can find a 2nd hand one, i do want to keep it as original as possible, i have got two original rear wheels still looking for the front but they are like hens teeth as some people put 4 fronts on normal cars

Hi. Did you sort out all the bodywork on this as I seem to recall from the PSC threads it was not in the best condition under the arches. If you have a new turbo in the boot then that is a good start as you have the manifold already and the rest of the pipework and a stuff.

It depends how much power you are looking to get from it too. If the new turbo is a GT25 then it may not be the best for massive BHP. However it is enough for a 205 really with the right management. As has been said, supercharged 6's may be 400 bhp on paper but need a total rebuild first and then you will be highlighting other weak spots on the car like boxes, brakes etc.

The TT stuff would bolt onto a 2.0 T engine or even a low compression 1.9 CTI engine like mine. It is surprising how quick a 205 is with just half a bar of boost and a torquey turbo

Personally I would get it all tidied up, MOT'd etc with a cheap 1.9 in it then uprate the suspension and brakes and then stick a powerful engine in it. Otherwise it will be an ongoing project that will never get finished and haemorrhage time and money.

Look for an STDT shell if it is only the shell you need and the rest is good, however if you are putting all the Dimma kit on then any shell will be fine (though watch out for CAT laws if you get an M reg or something)

I've seen photos of 205 Dimmas from Europe in that condition, its the Dimma kit rather than your location that caused it.

Does the dimma kit trap water where it joins then?

I should first start with the bodywork, before thinkin' about which engine to take.... (and then see what's left of your budget, to build an engine)
