Running Brake Lines

Recommended Posts

Iain-gti

Hi,

Nearly at the stage of running brake lines on my 205. Im running them inside the car, but just need some advice. I was thinking of running braided throughout the car, straight from bias pedal box to calipers making sure theirs enough slack through full lock and suspension movement and same for the back, making sure their secure??? Also any one know the typical connections I might need.

Much appreciated

Iain

The calipers are all M10x1 if they're Peugeot. What master cylinders do you have, they're probably 3/8UNF (-3 JIC) for the ports and 7/16UNF (-4 JIC) for the reservoir feeds.

Personally i wouldn't bother with braided lines in the car, would be a lot cheaper to do it in copper and you'll get better pedal feel (don't say braided lines don't expand because they do)

agree with mark, copper line and standard unions with a set of standard fit braided lines is a damn sight cheaper than a roll of braided pipe and unions

+1

If you can though, make sure you use bulkhead fittings to pass through the firewall as it makes for a much neater job.

And required for competition use i believe, the firewall has to remain sealed.

I'm not so sure, my entire braided line setup cost about £90 on my 309. The standard lines + braided flexis on my 205 cost much more. It was about £60 for the flexis alone not to mention the copper pipe, fittings,t's and tools to do it.

It's also very easy to do a neat job with braided lines, solid pipes can soon end up looking a right mess if you run out of patience.

Yeah I agree with that, solid pipes can be very awkward so it's tricky to get it looking nice and neat (especially inside the car where space is tighter) unless you've had a fair bit of practise. You also ether need a flaring tool or a friendly garage to flare them for you.

Then you were robbed! Full set of braided lines shouldn't cost that much, I got two reals of copper line of ebay for about £20, braided lines were about £70 and fixing were pennies frankley.

Are you aware of how much braided lines cost plus all the fixing? 3 or 4 times the cost of copper lines through out. In my opinion tidy copper lines look nicer than braided.

As I said, my complete braided line set-up from rally designs was £90. That included everything including p-clips. How is that 3-4 times more expensive than copper lines??

My good ridge braided flexis cost £60, £20 for the copper pipe, £5 for a t-piece and say £10 for the rest of the fittings. Then I needed a flaring tool which was about £30 + I bought a small pipe bender although that isn't completely necessary.

I also value my time and it took a lot longer to fit the solid lines than it did the full braided.

Allye, please Explain where I was robbed? My flexis were cheaper than yours and I paid similar for the copper pipe?

Allye Just to clarify, here's a picture where you can see the full braided lines in my car. Theres also 1 line running through the car which splits above the beam and goes to each rear caliper.

This all cost £90 FACT. So the question is; are you aware how much braided lines plus all the fixxings cost? Obviously not.

touche, you've managed to do that very cheap. Did you use bulkhead fixings? I suppose you've kept the cost down my running a single line.

I've gone Copper from master cylinder to Braided on each corner, works for me, cost me around £30 with all of the unions.

Everything is on the inside of the car.

:D yeah I was a bit grumpy this morning sorry.

I used bulkead fixings and I have a bias pedal box so single line to the rear is the easiest way. Rally designs are really good for brake lines, I highly recommend the euroquip stuff they do.

Welshpug, when I paid £60 for my goodridge flexis a couple of years ago that was a decent price. I didn't realise they'd come down in price so much. Are miles's swaged or compression fittings and Do they come with the clips to fit them in the standard mounts?
