Doesn't Servicebox Recognise All Vins?

Recommended Posts

feb

I went to the local dealer and when I gave him my VIN he told me the car is too old and is not recognised

I tried it at home and I get the same error "Unknown vehicle "

Doesn't servicebox recognise all VINs?

Cheers.

P.S. Could someone confirm that the correct downpipe/front exhaust section for a 1.9 Gti with a 2-piece exhaust system is 1704.95 ?

It looks like it but the guy at the counter was telling me it is the wrong part

It only knows vehicles from about 1997 onwards depending on which model.

yer 1704 95 is the right number as long as your car is 1990 onwards. if pre 1990 its 1704 46. hope this helps. josh

Not true, servicebox recognises my '88 405 Mi16 VIN fine, just as citroen service recognises old ones. Not to mention various peugeots i have worked on from the early 90's

I clarified to him that no CAT is needed but I think he got the engine codes wrong. He was thinking JAZ is the 128bhp version.

Next task is how to explain if an OE ehxaust has the split

that will be it, they didn't sell the 205 there!

mine is set for the uk, you may need to create a new account, if you do you'll have to use a new email address, no need for a vat code.

indeed the 9JA is non cat not the AZ (or J1) the o.e pipe SHOULD have the split downpipe...

Is that all you need for a new account on Servicebox?

What do you put down when asked if you're a pro mechanic, other pro mechanic or other pro?

What company?

Isn't it "safer" to put some other details in or doesn't anyone check the database?

Or does it not matter? Are the data used for statistical only reasons then?

I have used french VINs with my uk citroen service account, but then maybe thats just because its still european. One thing i have noticed with older models is that entering the VIN doesnt really filter the right parts anyway, so it doesnt help. 205's/BX's are notorious for this.

Sam

EDIT - and don't worry about the details you enter, its not as if citroen/peugeot care that you are using their system, afterall you still have to get the parts listed from them!

You shouldn't need to create another account afaik, just go into the account settings & change your country to the UK.

Mine works fine that way & as said, no need for a vat code etc.

^ That's correct actually. Mine was in the wrong country and I was able to change it in settings.

The UK data base is pretty poor up until then it may recognises the VIN but any partsman/Tech worth his salt will not trust sericebox and do searches manually and on top of this servicebox has also a lot of wrong parts pages listed for older models

.

For example some pages will only show 91 on model year part numbers for 205 but when you check the old microfiche the unto 91 model year parts/numbers are different and some are still available.

Worry not i am a parts man who (thinks he) is worth his salt, so i do search manually, as long as you have a grasp of the various engine codes then you are usually alright. And all i have is the citroen microfiche - although i am yet to dust it off!
