Hi friends

Took my 205 GTI 1992 1.9 DKZ engine for mechanic

To set the valves clearence correctly

Today he called and said that he cant set the valves because the camshaft? Is hydraulic and it cant be tuned

Is it logical?

Plz help

he is incorrect, the 8 valve XU and XUD use bucket tappets with a solid shim underneath, only the 16v is hydraulic.

Do you have to use this mechanic for the work? Can you take it somewhere else?

I wouldn't trust someone who has made such a fundamental mistake

went to the mechanic with a Haynes manual that i bought , he learned it and said that if he will do it , he will have to change the vlave seals with it

in order to keep the compression on good level , otherwise it might loose compression

sounds strange

Your mechanic is rubbish, I would find another one.

When paying someone to do work for you, there is no point employing someone who does not know what they are doing, as they will take twice as long, cost twice as much, and probably f*** it up!
