Rallye Or Gti

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for another car/shell to transplant my engine into.

I've been keeping an eye out for anything Gti but I noticed a 205 Rallye again local to myself.

What's people opinion on these, From my point of view the shell looks good, Very clean and straight with no real rust showing in the usuall places.

My main cocncern is that it seems so basic compared to the 205 I have just now, Fair enough I could fit the majority of my car, Seats,Brakes,Beam a long with my engine.

What's the thoughts, Would it make more sense to hang off for a decent Gti ?

Out of curiosity, Is the Rallye a lighter car than the Gti bearing in mind I will be fitting my alloy block MI into it ?

at the end of the day if your putting all your stuff from the old car onto it, chances are the weight wont be much different, best way to look at it is just get the best shell you can find, anything else can be swapped over

bare in mind rallyes etc have different wheel arch shapes, so will need trimming before fitting gti plastics etc

then again depending on what wheels you want to run, you wont necesarily have to put the gti plastics on

I'm not sure he was intending to put a GTI body kit onto the Rallye. If you go down the Rallye route you'll end up changing pretty much everything, fuel tank, beam, sub frame, all the gear linkage set up, most of the wiring, hubs etc etc. But if your up for that go for it and you'll have yourself a fun, interesting and something a bit different base car.

Yep, I wouldn't fit the GTI kit to the Raylle but as you say I would probably end up swapping the running gear.

I just had a look at your build thread, That's a very tidy car mate, The sound deading you used, Where did you get that from ?

IMO if your going to be swapping all/most of GTI bits over i'd get a non a low milaged mint shell, preferably one that doesn't run. Would be the cheapest option too

There does seem to be a few minters about with 1.1's/ 1.8 d's going cheap

Standard mate! Its whats under any 205 carpet, I'm going to get some similar stuff and make some deadning from the boot thats goes under the seats and meets up with the carpet.
