Refitting Engine

Recommended Posts

Evening folks.

Just a few questions on refitting an engine after a snapped timing belt.

1.is it ok to lift the whole engine and gearbox using the lifting eyes on the head?

2.will the engine and box lift in from above, i've read a few posts that suggest tilting the gearbox down but what sort of angle are we talking?

3.what weight roughly are the engine and box together, my crane is fit to lift 250kg at full stretch but more if i bring the arm in a bit.

Any other pearls of wisdom that might be of use before i go ahead with this would be mucho appreciated

With box it'll weight about 150-160kgs, without fluids.

I have lifted my front end up using the lifting eye lugs before, they're pretty strong so long as you dont yank them around.

They do lift out very easily from the top, just remove the upper arm, and drop the engine down slightly, then remove the batterytray (4 bolts, 2 on top 2 under) and it should lift out with a slight twist.

Remove your headlights before you remove the engine. make sure you disconnect all the wiring and pipes. take photos. photos are great to remind you where all them little wires go!

Any help you need is already availible on the forum but if you cant find it or you get stuck then just ask.
