Gti6/xsara Vts Conversion

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

SO, having got a little bit hooked on trackdays i've decided to GTI-6 convert my 205. I understand that the Xsara VTS has the same engine and it looks like buying a complete car is the way to go. Is there a difference between the early and late Xsara VTS lump as the 02 on ones seem to go cheaper for some reason. I have heard conflicting info on whether the lump is the same.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Matt

As long as its not the lesser seen, ultra rare 1.8 VTS, the engines are all the same. xu10j4rs. Look for RFS in the chassis number if you are really unsure.

I think its the earlier not later one you want as loom is different?

The engine itself is basically the same.

The ECU, loom, exhaust manifold and various sensors however are not, and need to be replaced with 306 GTi-6 or Phase 1 Xsara VTS items assuming you're planning on running standard management.

Not exactly difficult either way, the later cars will presumably have less mileage etc too of course. For instance, my '02 one's covered just 70k with FSH.

Thanks for the responses guys. I have my eye on an early lowish mileage Xsara at the moment so we'll see what happens.

I looked into this before buying an engine package...basically the phase one 2.0 vts (have never heard of a 1.8?!) engine is a lot easier to plumb in in terms of electronics, go for a low mileage one of those if you can.

Neither had i until i started looking for mine, came across a couple phase one Xsara's badged as VTS with the 1.8 16v xu7 engine (113bhp i think). At first i thought they were just lower models that someone had stuck VTS badges on, but sure enough it even said Xsara VTS on the V5 document.

nice to hear its been helpful!

I cocked up with the pics of the diff though, assuming your using the VTS box then you need to keep the 205 diff, and fit the VTS crown wheel and refit into the VTS box. Also swap over the gearbox linkages while the gearbox is out, its an utter c*nt to do when the engine is in the car. I had to resort to using an M7 bolt instead of the roll pins, works OK though.
