Any One On Here A Windscreen Fitter In The N W?

Recommended Posts

As per the title, I couple of us have a few screens to be swapped about and a heated one to be fitted. Any on in the north west who does this for a job and fancies a few quid let me know :) One is a heated screen hence I am not trying to fit it! (to expensive if it goes wrong  )

I watched the fitter fit mine and just did a face-palm when I saw how easy it was.

1. Put seal into opening

2. Apply a little "lube" to the edges of the screen - it looked like water, presumably something like a little soapy water would suffice?

3. Fit some thin gauge rope into the rubber seal, into the channel that the window eventually seals into. Keep two decent (12" length) loops popping out of the seal - one popping out in the middle of the top run, and one popping out in the middle of the bottom run.

4. Place the window onto the seal and get it started into the channel near one of the loops

5. Pull the rope out of the seal while simultaneaously pushing (gently) the screen into the seal, and just work round the edges, switch between the loops and the top and bottom.

The fecking thing drops in in minutes this way :-)

As above Mark, it isn't a difficult job. All I would say is, never ever be tempted to use a screwdriver or lever against the rubber if its awkward, as this is how you will crack the screen. I start at the bottom as this is the widest point, then work upwards as the screen tapers in.

Having said all that guff, i can understand your worries with a heated screen.

Are the heating elements in the heated screen visible when driving against direct sunlight or do they deteriorate visibility at night?

I guess you are going to fit it to a track only car?

Cheers all! I have fitted screens before in my mk1 fiesta days. I am happy fitting normal ones just not the heated beast. I will not be fitting this one as if I break it I will have to replace it. For the sake of a few quid to someone that does it day in day out, I am not risking taking the chance.

Feb - Have you ever been in a ford with a heated screen? They are very simular to them. You can see the very fine element running through it.
