Anti-Freeze Added To Engine Oil By Mistake

Recommended Posts

Phil205

I went to top up the engine oil and picked up the anti-freeze by mistake. Before I realised I had added maybe half a cup of anti-freeze into the oil filler pipe.

I only just had the engine oil changed !

Do I need to get the engine oil changed asap or can I hang on for a while ?

Thoughts and comments please.

I'm hardly a mechanic but I certainly wouldn't use the car without changing oil and filter and giving it a thorough flush!

As above I wouldn't really want to use the car with coolant in the oil.

If you drop and replace the oil without starting it you'll be ok to keep the oil filter (presuming it's also new). If you've started it though I'd replace the filter aswell.

As said, starting it is a definite no - no :)
