No Coolant?

I know it's not advisable to have my car sitting without any coolant in it over the winter due to ice etc

What I was wondering was, are there any major problems with leaving the engine dry from water and coolant over the winter??

Am mid change over of pipes in the engine bay and I know what my luck is like at the moment, something will break and stop me finishing the job it the morning!!
