Square And Stiff Tyre Sidewalls

Recommended Posts

Can anyone recommend any tyres which have a much squarer/flush sidewall and a more rigid structure so that I'm able to gain some vital mm's between 7J wheels and the rear arms.

Cheers :)

What tyre are you currently using and in what size?

7.0/22.0-15 (195/45) Avon ACB10's. Because they're crossply.

ACB10's have a pretty radiuses edge, not very square at all. I don't know why everyone rave's about these tyre's.

Id be looking at dunlop's as this a trait that many of them have, very square and some of them have a pretty stiff sidewall. Similar to some kumho's I've also seen which seem very square edged.

On an Formula car on skinny rims like you're used to may be yes. But not on a wider wheel with the size as i suggested above, do you or have you run them on a 205 then? They are probably the squarest tyre i've ever seen!

I've not seen people raving about them. I like them because they're light and in my case relatively good value.

That looks like what I'm after cheers Baz, they are pretty expensive but if they perform nicely on the road (specifically the sport/road version) then they should do what I need :)

You really wouldn't want to run ACB10's on a road car - I've driven a few miles on them popping out to get petrol on a trackday, and they were unpleasant enough just doing that if I'm honest. Even if you were silly enough to use them on a road car, you really really wouldn't want to in the middle of winter - you'll never get any heat into them, and they will not deal with standing water at all well.

IMO, stick with road tyres and either space the wheel out slightly (say 5mm) or go down a tyre width to 185/55R15's

Some ARB end plates are a little thinner than others too, so I can see if I can find a thin pair which will gain you 2-3mm extra clearance.
