How Does The Spoiler Connect...

Recommended Posts

gavbrum

There are holes in the spoiler. Unfortunately I have a 205 tailgate (Old and replacement), not a GTI one so there are no corresponding holes or pins for either panel or spoiler. How would this originally connect? Been in Haynes manual and service box but cant find out. I'll end up gluing it onto the new tailgate anyway but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what was the correct way.

Cheers,

Gav

From memory there are three to four holes in the tailgate with plastic 'mounts' to screw into.

Yep, 4 torx bolts hold it in place on the Gti. You could just use something like Tigerseal, seems to hold most stuff quite well.

Anyone got any pics of these mounts on the tailgate?

There isn't 'mounts per se, just screw holes.

Are these threaded holes? How does the spoiler bolt on?

nope, just holes, torx headed bots and dome nuts on the inside iirc.

I might get it drilled then. I wonder if the bolts are still available from Peugeot? I'll check service box.

Id rather bolt it on than glue it. Anyone tried before?

Are these the 2 parts needed to hold on the spoiler?

What is a retaining clip?

Called Peugeot and they don't know. Anyone have any I could see a proper pic of. Anyone got any spare I could buy? smile.gif

If you do go about dirlling holes in it, make sure you do some sort of rust protection!

There are about 5 holes, which you put plastic holders in then you screw them into the plastic holders

Which side of the tailgate do the holders sit?

The holders sit between the tailgate and the boot:

When the torx screw goes into them, they expand, and grip into the hole in the tailgate.

Ah I see. Spot on mate. Now I understand.

I can buy the screws and holders (Retaining Clip Peugeot call them).

Minimum quantity order of 10 screws at 32p per screw so £3.20.

Minimum quantity order of 20 Retaining clips at £2.33 per clip so £46.60.

Grand total of £49.80.

Ouch!!! unsure.gif

I'd have 3 spare sets with screws. I guess I could shift them on here for £15 or so.

Anyone interested?

To be honest.. I would find someone breaking a 205 on here, or on ebay. I wouldnt pay more than a fiver for all the bits needed to fit the spoiler.

I'll ask in the wanted section on here and look on eBay.

I've fitted spoilers to non GTIs before by drilling holes and then putting the clips in. No spare clips though :(

Would these plastic holders be similar to a plastic rawl plug ?

Its the same principle, but they have a square face, which sits into a recess into the spoiler.

What size of hole did you have to drill?
