Tu3 Flywheel Onto Tu5?

Recommended Posts

Loose Hand Luke

Hi all,

I've read up that the TU5 clutch is slightly larger dia than the TU3, so firstly, is that correct?

Reason being that I've got a brand new clutch for a TU3 that I no longer need to fit, but the VTR engine in my 205 will need a new clutch soon.

So if I cannot fit the TU3 clutch on the TU5 Flywheel, is there any benefit or possibilty in swapping the TU5 fly with a TU3 (smaller, lighter etc etc?), and if so, would this be a prob for starter motors etc? (obviously would need a TU3 injection fly for the VTR loom and ecu).

Thanks peeps.

Interchangeable if you respect timing teeth and clutch. 1.0, 1.1 and 1.4 180mm clutch, 1.5 and 1.6 200mm clutch.

Thank you so much for the reply and info Sandy :D

Do you know if the smaller clutch flywheel is lighter or are they the same except for the bolt holes and dowels for the different clutches?

Off the top of my head, 200mm flywheels are mostly about 6kg, 180mm, mostly around 4kg (later ones 6kg though). The clutch covers are a good bit lighter too, so it's a noticeable difference.

IMO the 1.4 clutch is really on the edge with anything more than a lightly tuned 1.4 and the 200mm 1.6 clutch is far superior for torque capability. The drawback though is the bigger heavier flywheel.

Ah great info thanks guys!

Right ok, so early 1.4 toothed flywheel if I use one, but otherwise the 1.6 clutch will take more torque (obviously).

Its always a balance isn't it, but the VTR engine will prob stay in standard spec if I'm honest so the smaller torque capability of the 1.4 clutch might not make a difference to me.

Thanks again for the info lads.

You're stars :D
