So, How Do I Get Into My Car Now Then?

Recommended Posts

So...

I just went out to do a few bits to my gti and have found that the battery has gone flat... I knew it was getting low but hadn't realised it was completely dead, as it is now... This is going to mean a new battery, I know, but the problem at the moment is that I can't get to charge it without getting into the car...

Having never had the need to check is the key I've got that lets me start the car opens the doors, I've now found out at the worst time possible... When the battery is dead and the alarm fob won't open the doors for me!!

GREAT!!!!!

Just what I didn't want!!!

So.... Who's got any good advice on breaking into my car, without actually breaking anything???

Does the old one with a thin ruler work??

Or do I need a hook on the end of it to pull the cables up??

I've not actually got round to opening up the door cards yet on the 205 so I'm not sure where I'm searching for either....

Anyone got any good ideas please???

Please PM any replies to this question, DO NOT post methods for breaking into 205s on this forum.

If you lay on the floor in front of the car and reach up between the engine and the radiator you can grab the bonnet release cable and if you tug it hard enough it will open, then you will be able to charge the battery which is better than breaking in.

Good point about the PM's rather than posting, sorry hadn't thought that one through properly lol

As above - straight forward and easy on an 8v :)

Just be warned that even if the battery is flat, the alarm will have a battery-backed siren (if CAT1) that will likely sound when you open the bonnet, so don't try this late at night or early in the morning if you value neighbourly relations **

** I may or may not have made this mistake at 7am many years back when I opened the door with the key and didn't have the spare battery or jump leads ready - needless to say, my alarm clock wasn't appreciated

Could you not put some leads from another battery to the starter from underneath, just to give it enough power so your alarm works to unlock the car?

PM sent, quite easy really without messing about with door locks or battery links etc.
