Thinking About Making Some More Parts For The Old Girls

Recommended Posts

SurGie

The Side trim metal clips I have in stock and are still available from Pug in the bag load,

Have you got the part number for the rear bumper bit's as these could be Nylon like all the 306 ones are.

I'll look into the rubber's, Would have to be made down under/New Zealand thou to come in at the right price, but easy to do

Sure, its the rear wing section.

They tend to rot out.

I should have those hoses in as well late December, 16v ones are the same as the 8v ones there

I see the part you mean now Surgie, I would say for that not for a good few years as you can still cut them out from scrapper's or make you own

The driving light surrounds are a good idea. I fitted new OEM ones (not the cheap copies) in 09 and they're already looking rough!

Probably not worth suggesting parts that need thousands and thousands of £££'s worth of pressing / moulding tools.

It is the metal sleeve that fits on the end of the beam tube and carries the seal that the face of the radius arm inner face moves against. And yes I suppose you could say it was in the arch (rear).

There you are.

you can still get those easily Dave, and in my experience even the grottiest of 20 year old beam they're still intact, they come with some bearing kits too.

surely this whole driving light surround isnt that much of a problem, they are not that hard to repair your self, and if they were sorted before they rot and break it would be simple

its only a case of a hour or two's work to sort them

"The Rad cap's I would have thought could be got from any motorfactor as it's a age old design, I know Pug one's have changed to the plastic things which don;t really fit"

Could do me favour and send me link where you got this from??

I just saw it on demon tweeks http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/radiator-caps-necks/demon-tweeks-stant-racing-radiator-cap-with-lever-release

There must be someone out there capable of making replacement driving lights surrounds from plastic. They are such a simple shape that a mould probably wouldn't be too challenging to make.

I reckon if it was possible to make them and sell them for £20 a set, there'd be a huge amount of interest. I reckon it's something that pretty much every GTI owner would buy at that price, because let's face it, who hasn't suffered from rotten driving light surrounds?

I'll look into this, A friend of mine has a contact in China which to make anything at the right price is the way to go I'm afraid, I will price a UK version but I doubt it would be close,

TU water pipes no problems at all, You would need at least 10 people to commit with a 50% deposit (non refundable) as the tooling cost is the main part of it

What about these folks for the light surrounds or someone similar http://www.protomold.co.uk/

i guess the initial outlay would be alot but with enough interest sure itd be worthwhile.....
