Oil Cooler Advice On My 205 Gti6

Recommended Posts

ellis

Hi guys, after some advice please. I'm currently running no oil cooler on my gti6 powered CT I. I got my hands on a mocal and was going to fit a thermostat sandwich plate but I've recently been told that these don't stop the flow completely as they would cause an oil pressure drop when they open, makes sense. Obviously running the oil too cold is also a concern. The oil doesn't run to hot now for general day to day driving but if I go on a motorway trip then it creeps up a bit, still not that high but it does go up. So what do you guys think I should do? Cheers, ellis

I wouldn't bother with one to be honest, unless it spends its life on the limiter as a race or rally car you don't need one.

My oil temps never give reason for concern with the standard heat exchanger used, warms up nice and quick.

Cheers for the reply. I will leave it for now then, mine seems fine for now, maybe I will save the mocal for next year when I charge it. Thanks again

As above. The oil getting properly "warm" on a motorway run is good, it helps burn off condensation from the oil.

On track I have always found a proper cooler is required.

if you have space i would fit both, seen this arrangement on many citroen and peugeot sport rally cars, covering the cooler most of the time to prevent over cooling on the road will help
