Injector Parts

Just finishing off under the back of the car for the night last night and thought I'd quickly pop the fuel rail off and the injectors out to send them off to madproffessor for cleaning.

Crikey, were they tight!

And one of them lost its tip as it came out.... I managed to retrieve the platic washer and the rubber o-ring but the cap had gone down the inlet. :(

I had to take the inlet manifold off to get the cap out... thankfully the valve was closed and it wasn't too difficult to get out again. Question is... is there anything missing or is that it...

So much for the quick last minute job eh?

OK, so I've done some googling and found a couple of pics like the ones on this page that seem to suggest I've not left anything inside the engine...

I think to be on the safe side I'll prise one of the other caps off and see what falls out.

Any proper procedures to follow when removing injectors from the manifold in future? Or is my wiggle and pull technique about as technical as it gets?

What you have described there is the technique! When you refit them use some rubber grease (the red stuff I think) on the o-rings, will help them go back in a LOT easier as the new o-rings will be nice and plump compared to the old ones!

Cheers Josh, I couldn't see any other way of doing it but I always doubt myself!

Rubber grease, where on earth am I going to get that?

Off eBay, you can buy little 25 ml sachets of the stuff for like £3 because tubs of the stuff are quite dear unless you plan on rebuilding something with lots of rubber on like a pair of calipers, then it becomes an investment

Don't go using normal moly grease tho as it deteriorates the rubber.

If the injectors have been in there a while (as most have) they can be hard work to get out.

What I tend to do on unknown ones now if they have to come out, for the sake of a couple of quid for an inlet gasket, is to remove the inlet and put some card between, to catch any injector debris.

Josh, thanks... I won't have to visit a sex shop then? ;)

Tom, with hindsight that sounds like a sensible precaution!

 as much as I'd hate to use the stuff ky would probably work as its water based, and if your not planning on moving them once they're in there.....time to open the bedside drawer! Edited by JoshGti
