having trouble finding a be3 box locally a friend of mine is brakeing a vtr and i can have the box for free , will it fit a 1.9 xu engine ?

Saxo VTR will have an MA gearbox, which as Paul says, won't fit an XU engine.

 

Have you put a wanted thread up on here, as I'm sure someone must have one, especially given that gearboxes can be couriered for a fairly reasonable price if you can't find one locally?

 

If you can travel to collect, I know a friend of mine about 25 miles from you that has atleast one BE3 gearbox spare that he'd probably sell as I helped him remove it from the car earlier this month - I'd have to double check with him, but I'm pretty sure it was a 1.9 GTi BE3 gearbox.

He didn't say which VTR though, if its a Xsara it'll be fine as they did use an XU.

Actually a xsara VTR can have any of the following engines, 1.6 8v TU, 1.6 16v TU, 2.0 HDi DW and the 1.8 16v XU. It depends on age and spec etc.
