Number Plate Lights Not Working

My number plate lights dont currently work and im trying to track down the wiring fault. Its a 1991 H reg, so I would suspect its a phase 2.

 

My haynes manual shows that the number plate lights are wired into the right light cluster, upon taking it apart, its wired into the left :-(

 

The haynes manual says its on the same fuse (5) which is also the rear lights, which work, so power is obveously getting to the cluster, but I dont have 12v at the bulb holder.

 

Any ideas? or a correct wiring diagram for a phase 2?

 

Done a bit of search, but didnt come up with much.

the holders are terrible, and the connectors at the back corrode, to. check if you actually have power to the holder before going further afield.

As above, check for continuity, i've had to replace about a foot of the wire feeding the bulb holders in the past.

Any idea which plug it is on the back of the light lens to check continuity with? There are 3, or I suppose I could uplug each in turn to see what stops working!

It looks like it was the holders, it had 12v at the plug, but not inside the holder, cleaned the holder contacts and clossed up the contacts in the plug as they were a bit loose and all seems to work. Strange that both did it at the same time.

Number plate lights loom is the brown plugs at the back of the light unit iirc.
