Black and Decker Powerfile. Really handy little thing, you need the al-ox belts though (blue colour) forget the red ones, these are OK for Wood but wear out instantly on steel.

another vote for powerfile, very handy for getting into corners and awkward areas (i've got an airpowered one as well which is a bit smaller)

If you've got an air compressor then it also get a 90 degree die grinder with some roloc discs, very handy again

Iv just recently sorted out my inner wings and engine bay, weld, prime, sealant then primer and paint. I found a lot of underneath paint rust on edges etc where it looked fine. The scuttle panel was the most difficult i found.

I have used lots a few pencil shaped drill brushes that are the strong wire type. In corners i turn the drill a few turns one way then the other which cleans out the rust. With regards to the drill, if you swap the direction make sure its not turning round, then change its direction. It can brake the drill motor if you used the drill in the other direction as its going round BTW.

I also used a few of the very small circular wire brushes as well as the medium and very large ones. I think Machine Mart sell those circular disk plastic type brill brushes, in pink iirc. These are useful at getting the remainder of paint thick edges down, so when you paint over these edges, its all flat and smooth, saves a lot of wet and drying them :)

I found rust around edges, welds, metal seams, anywhere there may have been movement in the chassis during its life and stone chips etc.

Dependant on what finish you are after, it is a laborious job ime, its the spot welded panels that are the worse, usually rust between them. You will realise you need more drill attachments than what you first thought you would, mines a 92 so if yours is older it may have more rust.

Machine mart and Screw-fix are good places to go for attachments, they sell things like dremels which helped me loads to get rid of rust in tight spaces/corners etc. Toolstation also have a few handy tools. As for sanding back the primer etc, i use the green wet and dry sponge sandpaper pads from Halfords and they seem to be the only place that sells them, very good at getting into tight corners etc, the actual rough side is very thin so is more flexible than plain wet and dry or other black wet N dry sponge pads places sell.
