Cost Of Custom Pas Pipes For Electric Power Steering Conversion

Recommended Posts

feb

As per title what would the cost be to have custom-made PAS pipes to convert a 205 to electric power steering from a 106/Saxo?

Depends on who you find and if they like cash, anything from £25.00 to £250.00

What's wrong with the std set up? I'd use that over the electric system personally

Only thinking in case I want to convert to TBs in the future

Why is the standard setup preferable?

Less chance of cavitation which I find tends to effect the electic pumps found on Pugs and Honda's from experance, But you don;t need this with T/B's just run the pump on the sump (May need a alloy one fitting)

Isn't it too exposed to the elements so low down?

What would be the cost of such a conversion Miles?

PM me if you prefer to.

Why may a different sump be needed?

Why may a different sump be needed?

It utilises the brackets that the aircon pump would normally be attached to, and these are only found on the alloy sumps, not the normal 205 GTi tin sump like your engine has fitted currently. Swapping the sump over isn't a massive issue though.

Get original pipe off 205.

Get original high pressure pipe off the Saxo/106.

Take the two to a friendly hydraulics place and ask them to splice them together (whichever way is convenient).

The fitting into the PAS pump on the 106 is some awkard tapered end which isn't a readily available standard pattern (well, no-one I spoke to could match it with an off-the-shelf fitting) so in the end all I spoke to advised to just splice one together out of the two consituent parts.

Cost me £20 cash to the nice chap over the counter, while I purchased a few other things from his store ;)

Pirtek wanted an arm and a leg, btw, so I wouldn't even bother approaching them. Find someone small and local, where the opportunity for backhanders is prevalent ;)

How safe/long lasting is to splice together the two pipes?

Have you got any pics Brumster of the splicing and your engine bay installation?

I have the same issue as the fittings are very odd, But it's 100% reliable and I've done loads over 10 years and never known of them going wrong, It's just the same as a couple of joins on the metal pipe anyway

The PAS Bracket is about £85.00 I think, a Alloy sump at S/H value and a modded high pressure pipe, I tend to use the 306 tank as again it fit's neatly where the jack sit's or should be, saves having a bottle mounted in the engine bay on a silly bracket.

Mine's been good since December 2007 so no issues here!

Just for you ;-)....

Rack end fitting is still available from Pug (well, was in 2007 anyway)....

Pirtek in Basildon are really helpful and have done me some really good deals but Pirtek in Ipswich are rubbish, the service is disinterested and they charged me a lot more, I wont be going back there.

Thanks Brumster.

So where exactly have you got the pump fitted in the engine bay?

Thanks Brumster.

At the time it was my previous shell, so it was on top of the gearbox mount, but in the new car it's here, tucked out of the way :-
