Is A 309 Engine Bay Much Bigger Than A 205 Bay

Recommended Posts

having never had a good look at a 309 i can only assume the engine bay is much bigger than in a 205, but i need a little confirmation please,

im thinking about building up another little sleeper and thought a 309 would be a less stressful option, also they are some what less commom so many "kids" (yes im 24 and calling teenagers kids!) wont even know what one is!!

cheers

Paul.

They are bigger sure, by how much i don't know though. This is my old one, un-tilted Mi on 45's, loads of room!

There is lots more room in front, but I think the bulkhead to turrets area is the same as a 205?

Bulkhead is the same, bit more on the inner wings and loads up front, Plus a cross member that's a box section and doesn;t wobble around like the 205 one

The same v6 engine in a 205 engine bay as a comparison

Agreed, IMO the distance between inner wings is definitely slightly larger, i can slip an engine & box in without removing battery tray without as much hassle as a 205.

The box section cross member on most of mine have been worse than 205's, but that's more to do with how rusty they've been!

Thats great info thanks!

i was hoping you were all going to say the bulkhead to engine clearence is massive but never mind, the extra clearence to the slam pannel is good as my old filter was very close onthe 205, this means i could have a longer maniold without any headaches!

Though i was planning on lowering the engine somewhat, say 25/30mm or so, this would help with MC and exh manifold clearence. hmmm

I think its decided that im going to have to keep my eyes open for a slightly tatty looking 309... Did they only do the 3 doors in GTI models?

Paul.

there's plenty of base model 3 door versions, see Sandy's Typerio :D

I doubt you would be able to lower the engine that far, the driveshafts are pretty close to the subframe as it is, alter th angle of the exhaust and shift the servo/m-c and job done, tried and tested methods.
