I do like a phase one interior these days. Dont know why but it really does it for me. Go on Bus driver buy it! I wonder if in the flesh its been patched up like wheels refubred whilst tyres are still on, patched up sills etc.

oops didnt see the price had to go back and have a look wow that is epensive. it does have low miles. but on the other hand you could pick something up with 40k miles more for a fraction of the price and clean it up to almost similar condition...?

£7,495

Why?

It's still almost 25 years old and WILL have issues within 6 months of owning it.

Give me a used, 100k+ thats been looked after for £1500 any day of the week.

There are still many good ones out there for a 1/4 of that price that may need a bit of tlc but could look just as nice.

My two cents.

Above post beat me to it.

Whether you like it or don't, cars like this at dealers like this, are a very useful resource to anyone needing to value a 205 GTI for any insurance purposes.

Yep, you and I, like most of us on this forum, enjoy the 205 as something to tinker with, use it to its full potential and not have to worry about too much.

This is very much going to appeal to the collector who will tuck this away as an investment and maybe bring it out for a show or two in the summer. So, on that basis it probably WON'T have issues in the first 6 months.

It does look fantastic I have to say and I love the WTF registration!

It's a beautiful looking thing, that. Tom has a point too, even though it is obscenely priced. The last three letters of the number plate sum up the pricing of it.

I'm wondering if the exterior trim has been changed to black rather than light grey. Might just be the lighting.

It's also nowhere near as original or 'correct' as you'd expect for the pricetag, i've just looked through the pics with my brother quickly and spotted a few issues straight off!

Had mudflaps that have damaged the sills, red trims are dented, driver's seat side bolster squashed, bumper doesn't sit straight etc etc..

And clearly don't know/cba to put the fuel cap on the right way!

True you would expect a matching set of driving lights for that price at least.

Gents, we are the 205 anoraks so we know and notice these things.

The kind of person who is likely to buy such a car will either not be bothered about spending a further £2000 to put it right. OR they won't know the difference and will be happy with it, as it is.

Same goes for the dealer. No doubt they've picked it up somewhere for a song and are looking to cash in big time, so its a gallon of shiny silicone and get it knocked out, not changing stuff for the sake of originality, as they don't know any better, and even if they did, they don't care enough to lose profit.

As you know I sell prestige cars for a living. I don't sell older stuff like this, but it's all tge same set up, we sell on desire.

We often have a high end Porsche/Lambo/Ferarri that to me look too dear by a LONG chalk, but someone will always come in and buy it!

The 205 however is not for me.

The side trims are the grey type and looks in great condition, not worth that price but around the 5k mark if its as good as they make out. Its in rare silver and one of the early 1.9's so its got that for it. I like the ph1 gti dash, my ph1 gt is the same apart from the cowling. This 205 does have the tape deck missing.

I like it

Although the amount mine has been done would be in better condition than its described as, yet cost much less and has a 40k 16v included ^_^ so buying one in fair condition and doing it up would be cheaper ime.

If I wanted a nice phase 1 1.9 to sit in my garage after a lottery win, then I'd be looking for something like this. You'd buy it as something to look at, drive on nice weekends, etc.

I don't think the price tag is totally ott, granted it's too much money for the most of us, but for a collector looking for nice example, then it's not a lot of money really.

I must stop robbing bits off my D reg 1.9!!

A sign of where prices are heading?? 4starclassics in Sussex occasionally have a 'mint' GTi on their website. They seem to ask similar money & appear to sell them. As others have stated, I'd rather run a cheaper version. The buyer of this one won't be using it regularly I bet. Cars are made to drive not sit in a garage & be polished on a Sunday.

Not really.. just because the car is forsale for that price, that doesn't mean it is worth that or will actually sell for that figure.

Exactly, and whilst it's good to use as an example of what a good, low mileage one may be worth these days, i think the amount of people that have a similar one will be very low, added to the fact that one 25yo 205 can't be used to gauge another IMO, even if they're identical with similar mileage, they could be very different condition-wise.

:lol::blush:

I disagree though, because there's a very obvious 'right' way for stuff like that, then there's OCD-like things that are just habits, like people who habitually keep notes all face up! :P:mellow::ph34r:
