Lost All Brakes!

Recommended Posts

wilyoldave

Well lucky to get home tonight!!!!!!!!!!!

Was half a mile from home(luckily!) and doing about 30 mph when I had to hit the brakes fairly hard - I stopped but the pedal did not feel right.

When i pulled away I then tried the brakes again and this time the pedal almost went to the floor, luckily was going slow in crawling traffic so did not hit the car in front! Next time I tried the brakes the pedal went to the floor and NO brakes!!!! so going slow and using the handbrake managed to get home without hitting anything.

When pressing the pedal all I can hear is air 'whooshing' and the pedal goes to the floor.

I am going to have a look in a mo but its dark so I doubt I will see much - anything obvious to look for?

I am guessing catastrophic fluid loss or buggered master cylinder/ slave cylinder???

Any help/advice greatfully appreciated!!

My presence at the Cheder meet is looking v.doubtfull :(

Dave.

Split flexi or brake line is my guess

If it's lost fluid then it's likely a split hose/pipe - the puddle of brake fluid should give the location away.

If it's not lost fluid then it's likely MC failure.

Update - well ive lost all fluid!!

Cant see where though - hopefully its the front brake hose as I recently bought some brand new goodrich braided hoses.

Lucky it didnt go when I was on the duel carriageway where I was doing 70 ;) 2 miles earlier.

Need daylight - could be a pain if it all leaked before I got home.

Cheers.

Dave.

I had this problem when a compensator seized and stopped the rear brakes working.
