Oil Pressure

Recommended Posts

Guys I've recently re-fitted a new oil pressure sender to my 1.6 205 gti after the spade connector on the original one had snapped off but it's giving me a reading of between 1.5-2bar max when hot which is just over the red zone on my aftermarket racetech gauge, is this quite normal?

The original sender was genuine peugeot but the new one we've fitted is a cambiare one so hoping maybe it's just giving a different reading? The oil warning light is working fine as we've checked but it's not lighting at any time.

you need to test it with a proper mechanical gauge, you can never trust the original senders and gauges.

Is the Cambiare one supposed to be an OE equivilant replacement, like you'd order from a motor factors, or is it an aftermarket one intended for use with a specific range of gauges?

Because I've tried running my original gauge from a sender that came with a TIM gauge on my Mi16, and it reads much higher just like yours. In fact it goes to about 1/4 on the original gauge before you've even started the engine and just have the ignition on.

So it's obvious that the sender itself is calibrated differently, to work correctly with a specific guage.

But if yours was supposed to be an OE replacement then that's very disappointing, particulalry as proper ones from Pug are stupidly expensive.

Is it definitely a pressure sender you've got and not another pressure switch?

Cambiare don't list a pressure sender in their catalogue, only a switch!

It's a direct replacement for the original one, it's definately a pressure sender and not the switch.

It's around 4-4.5 bar when driving but on idle it drops right down, the engine was rebuilt the beginning of the year with race series bearings and seems to be running sweet and a nut

Well hope so we've got the Tempest Rally this weekend ;)

There's definately no bottom-end knocking or anything like that and other than it showing the oil pressure around the 1.5 bar when idling it's seems perfectly healthy to me, couple of people have said unless the warning light comes on just completely ignore it?

would agree with welshpug dont trust sender and o.e.gauge. my mi16 engines the same when its at normal running temp at about 2. 500 rpm to 3000rpm it readsfrom just over half to just under 3/4 on gauge but at idle it reads just under 1/4 at 900 rpm i wouldent be to concerned as a matter of intrest whats your idle r.p.m

1-2 bar at hot idle, rising to around 4-5 bar (6 bar on XU10 pump) at 4000+ rpm is perfectly normal and expected behaviour.
